Sick of Being Sick
Today marks 20 days straight of sickness in our family. Yes, I am counting. It is horrible and won’t go away. Mikey, David and I got it at the same time and Dan came down with it 2 days later. I thought we were getting better and we even went to the park yesterday, but then David came down with a high fever today. Last time I checked his temp it was 103. We gave him some Tylenol and that seemed to pull the fever down. He’s been so lethargic and sick. And just to give you all the details, he’s had diarrhea as well. Poor guy. Michael seems like he’s finally better, so that is good news. Dan on the other hand hasn’t slept in like 3 nights due to some horrible cough that won’t stop even with meds. My mucus seems to have almost cleared up and now I just need to get rid of my cough and sore throat that has come back again. I keep asking Dan if he had a sore throat before he started his crazy coughing fits hoping that my new sore throat won’t turn into what he has. Miserable. I’ve never seen a sickness last so long. Perhaps we have had a couple different bugs or something, but whatever it is, I don’t wish it upon anyone. First week I thought oh, day 5, we should be clearing up soon. Sore throat and runny noses progressed into a slight cough, then the yucky congestion/mucus stage, so we should be done soon. Week 2 I rescheduled all my appointments and tried to get as much sleep as possible, sleeping almost every morning while David napped, putting Mikey in front of a movie or video game (he won’t nap with me). Yes, I know. I’m a great mom. Then this last week I decided to ignore it altogether thinking maybe it will just go away. That seemed to be somewhat working until Dan came down with terrible “hacking up a lung” (as he refers to it), I’m having a hard time swallowing, and David has a fever. At least we aren’t throwing up, right? You might be thinking, isn’t it about time you go to the doctor? Well David did go in for his 9 month checkup during week 2, so what was that? a week or so ago. The doctor didn’t seem at all worried about him- ears looked fine and lungs sounded great. Dan’s paranoid we’ve had some sort of swine flu so I even asked the doctor about the protocol for H1N1 (swine flu). She laughed and said that this year’s scare was a false alarm. Nothing to worry about, just better start getting ready for next year’s. Hmm. Very interesting. So how are they tracking all these cases and stats I’m seeing online? I’d seriously like to know. Anyhow. Who knows what we’ve had. I’ll I know is that I’m ready for it to go away.

Sorry to hear y’all have been so sick. Norman and I are just getting over some cold/flu like symptoms. But ours only lasted about a week. I can’t imagine 2 more weeks of it. Yuck!!
I’m pretty sure we got adenovirus (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/respiratory/eadfeat.htm) since various members of the family have gotten fever, gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis, croup, pharyngitis… whee, not swine flu, but probably just as miserable.
